In our last post we talked about some of the things you’ll want to ask a roofer while you’re interviewing potential contractors. For this blog, we wanted to talk about some of the signs that indicate you’ve made a good choice.
If you need to contact your roofer while roof repair is being done, you should be able to get in touch with them. If your calls and/or emails are going unanswered, this isn’t a good sign. A reputable Denver roofer will be responsive to clients. They should take the time to answer your questions and/or address any concerns as they arise.
If there is a problem with the job (or if they need to pull permits and they’re having issues with the city), they should communicate all of that with you as soon as possible. Remember- the company is working for you, which means that customer service should be an important part of the job.
They put everything in writing
A reliable, reputable contractor understands that they need to provide would-be clients with a written bid. I most cases, the bid will come as a PDF attachment to an email (although there are some companies that still do it old-school, which means you’ll get the bid written out by hand on an official company document.)
The bid should include the company name, it’s address, state licensing information, a phone number (and possibly an email address) along with a full breakdown of the services that will be performed. It should also clearly state the breakdown of costs for materials and labor. In most cases, a written estimate will include an expiry date.
If the contractor you’re talking with doesn’t want to give you a written estimate, this is a huge red flag. If their idea of a written estimate is jotting down a number on a piece of notepad paper, this is also a bad sign.
They’re willing to provide you with references
In today’s world, everyone wants to check references. It’s the smart thing to do, because if you talk to 3 people and they all talk about the fact that they received high quality services and impeccable customer service, there’s a good chance you can expect the same.
A reliable roofing company should be more than willing to connect you with past clients. If they’re trying to convince you to sign without checking their references and/or credentials, this is probably a company you’ll want to stay away from.
